I’ve often been asked why I entered this industry and chose to become a financial advisor. Unlike many people, I knew exactly what I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with my career right after I took my first accounting class as a junior in high school.
Additionally, I knew that I enjoyed helping and teaching people, and I wanted a career that allowed me to do that. With the desire to tackle real-life problems and puzzles people often face, I became more and more intrigued by the tax and financial services industry. As I enjoyed working with numbers, I decided to study accounting in college, receiving my bachelor’s in accounting and finance from Georgetown College.
Founding My Firm
After graduating college, I jumped into the working world, spending a number of years in accounting. I discovered I wanted to have more control over my career and to work more closely with individuals and business owners. The best way I could do this was to form my own practice. In 2002, I founded my independent practice, Roberts CPA Group.
In creating Roberts CPA, my mission was to build a small, independent firm that was dedicated to providing the highest level of customer service to individuals, families, and businesses. I seek to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients and provide customized solutions that meet their needs.
Expanding to Financial Services
After several years of working as a CPA, I felt that providing financial services was a logical extension of my CPA firm. I felt like I could add value to my existing tax clients expanding into financial services to have a greater impact into their financial success.
By offering comprehensive tax, accounting, and financial services, I strive to integrate clients’ many needs into a cohesive strategy, which each piece working with the others. The result is greater financial organization and less stress.
Today, I serve a wide range of clients, from young families to busy professionals to small businesses. Regardless of the services for which these clients come to me, they value my tax expertise and planning perspective, and put their trust in me to serve them honestly and individually. By integrating our tax, accounting, and financial services, we strive to simplify our clients’ lives and help them create and execute a plan that can guide them toward their goals.
The Triumphs and the Hurdles
As much as I enjoy being an advisor and CPA, there are plenty of challenges to overcome. It can be time-consuming to run a business and work one-on-one with clients. But while it can be quite a juggling act, I can’t imagine having any other career. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping new clients realize that we are committed to providing a higher level of service than they’ve experienced anywhere else. It’s very fulfilling to know that I am helping people with their finances and taxes, and I enjoy meeting so many different people.
Every day, I’m driven in my career by the knowledge that I am helping people. This job can be very difficult at times because as an advisor I have to deal with situations that are sometimes out of my control. But knowing that I am truly helping someone makes this a rewarding career. Plus, there’s no greater feeling than having a client thank me for helping them stay on track toward their goals.
I am always open to meet new people and see how I may be able to help. Whether you’ve already started planning for the future or have yet to put strategies in place, I encourage you to reach out to me today for a no-obligation conversation to see how I may be able to help you.
